The year was 1991. The Burns Park Players, an organization founded by Alan Dengiz in 1984, features students from Burns Park Elementary School in their productions. But after the kids finished 5th grade at Burns Park Elementary, there was no theater group to which they could progress. The local high schools had theater programs, but there wasn't anything for middle school actors. So, a group of dedicated parents, led by Alan and his wife Lisa, decided to create their own theater opportunity - Tappan Players.

The idea was to stage an annual musical for the young actors so they could continue with theater, but just as importantly so the kids could join together, have fun, and make great memories. That spirit continues to this day.

Every year, over 100 students participate in the cast, crew, and in the orchestra. In just six weeks these talented students put in a lot of hard work to put on the show. In addition to learning how to create theater magic, they also learn valuable lessons about culture, teamwork, and dedication.
